What’s up! My name is Noel Keeffe and this will be my first season with the BSF Pro Team. I will use this first blog to share my story and a little bit of what I am about. I grew up in Steamboat Springs Colorado where I started skiing around the same I could walk. My first introduction to cross country skiing was through Nordic combined where I learned to ski jump and skate ski. I eventually realized I was better at the cross country skiing part of the sport and made the switch to full time cross country skiing. I then learned how to classic ski which I always struggled at, and I made the decision that there is no point to put sticky stuff on the bottom of your skis because it will only slow you down. That meant I tried to double pole lots of races for a long time. I have since learned how to stride and really enjoy the subtle art of classic skiing.
From Steamboat I went to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. I raced for Utah for five years and completed a degree in materials science and engineering in four and a half. I have trained around 700 hours for the past three years now. I have come to this number in different ways and learned more about my body each time.
Some fun facts about me:
I enjoy cross training on my bike and backcountry skis.
My favorite type of music is EDM.
I love cookie dough ice cream and fermented foods.
I love a nap.
I also enjoy watching a really bad movie.
I owe a lot of who I am as a skier now to coaches Miles Havlick and Josh Smullin. Both people were integral to my development. I am excited to start with a new team in a new place and work as hard as I can to be the best skier I can be.
