Hello! My name is Hannah Rudd and I am one of the athletes on the BSF Pro Team. After graduating from the University of Alaska Anchorage this spring, I knew that I wanted to continue my ski career, and the BSF Team seemed like a great place to do so. In my biased opinion, Bozeman is the perfect place to be a professional athlete. There are so many great training locations, endless mountain adventures, fast teammates, experienced coaches, awesome club support, and it’s a fun town to work and live in.
This summer of training in Bozeman has been filled with some ups and downs, but overall, I am happy with the progress and fitness I have gained so far. The month of June was a great start to the summer as I was able to settle into my new training environment and log some good hours. Unfortunately, as the end of June rolled around, I developed a stress fracture on the top of my foot which forced me to take a rest week and then do some alternative training. Although I’d like to say that I always keep a positive attitude while dealing with injuries, I often find myself getting discouraged and stressed about getting behind in my training. In order to keep my spirits up and continue doing quality training without hurting my foot, I have had to get creative with my workout methods. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been logging many kilometers on the ski-erg, doing lots of biking and swimming, and spending a good chunk of time in the gym doing strength.
As my foot is starting to heal, I’ve been able to get back to some practices with the team. This past week the group did some specific strength on Wednesday, skate L3 intervals on Saturday, and some beautiful rollerskiing through the country on Sunday. The Pro Team was also able to join in on a BSF Youth practice to work on technique and ski with the group.
I’m super exited for the rest of the summer and am looking forward to racing for BSF this winter :)
