Skimo Team Heads to Montana State Championships at Teton Pass in Choteau

The team had 10 kids complete in the final race of the Big Sky Skimo Cup, the Jack N Jill Skimo, this past weekend at Teton Pass in Choteau.

On Friday the entire team competed in the Vertical event, where skiers ski uphill and finish at the top. Coach Charlie finished in 4th! In an incredible feat, Owen Dinkins out sprinted others to complete the 1,000ft of vertical in 14 minutes 53 seconds! James Madsen and Anthony Warren were not far behind.  For the girls, Lucy Ostrowski finished in a time of 17:27 with Ingrid Brown 2 minutes behind and Julia Seipel not far behind! The other teammates finished in incredibly fast times, pushing their limits and collapsing at the finish line!

The next day the team headed to compete in the Individual event where they climbed over 2,500 vertical feet to the top of the ridge after a long ,windy boot pack. The descent was down a massive bowl with technical skiing and steep terrain. The kids had a blast and finished with Owen Dinkins in second place and James Madsen in third overall! In a very close 5th place was Anthony Warren! Isaac Spencer paced himself well and finished in 1:03! In their first skimo race ever Owen Shirer, age 12, and Bram Belchwender, age 12, a crushed the course with lots of technical skinning and skiing!

On the women’s side, Lucy Ostrowski completed the course in 58:35 in second place, with Ingrid chasing her down the mountain two minutes behind. In their first skimo race ever, Julia Seipel and Elia Scheihing worked together and finished 2 seconds apart after a spicy and fast descent!

Everyone had fun and enjoyed the course!
